Slide Show with Barry Wells – ‘Pollinators – The Most Important Creatures On Earth?’
One out of every three mouthfuls of our food depends on pollination taking place. It is almost impossible to over-emphasize the importance of the service pollinators perform for us. And yet pollinating insects are in trouble. Modern farming practices, urban growth and the overuse of pesticides have all been devastating to these insects. Two-thirds of UK butterflies and moths are in long term decline. Across Europe, 38% of bees and hoverflies are also in decline.
Through his detailed macro images, Barry will reveal the secret lives of these incredibly important creatures. Looking at the fascinating life cycles of bees, wasps, butterflies and hoverflies, he will explain what you can do in your own gardens to benefit these insects, and help save the island’s pollinators.
